On December 2008, Gurney Plaza New Wing Opens. The extension adds 150,000 sq ft of retail space to the mall. the extension costs RM 83 million and adds 800 parking bays. The extension therefore leads to more branded outlets which finally makes an appearance in Penang.
On August 2012. Due to the long queue at the auto pay machine for shoppers to pay their carpark ticket. Gurney Plaza agreed to accept Touch-n-go card for parking. But there will be a surcharge of 10% of the parking fees
